To make sure this was different to any of the usual childrens parties, I let the twins pick their cakes just to make sure the design wasn’t too childish for them. 10 was a difficult age for a parent to get things right! Either it was too babyish or it was boring for the most part! Of course, both of my twin girls have different tastes in cake. One prefers chocolate and the other prefers sponge so it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for us to have to buy 2 cakes. At least the guests would be able to pick with one they wanted! The chocolate tended to be the one to go first, especially if my husband got near it. I was more of a Victoria sponge fan, myself. My first trip to Dubai was in 2004. I stayed in the Hilton on that trip and I couldn’t believe that it was so hot in the U.A.E. The strange thing is that the heat in the middle east is a dry heat so you never sweat, no matter how much you work out. Water just evaporates from your skin. It can be very dangerous. It was paradise walking back into my hotel because of the air conditioning. There was even a boy there with towels for the foreigners. He gave me something to dry my face from the heat. I don’t think they still have a towel boy these days. Not in any Dubai Hotels. Of course I don’t stay at the Hilton anymore I stay at Atlantis the Palm. Even though I’ve been there several times I’m still impressed by it’s majesty when I drive up to it.
